Stay safe with AI
Pip’s golden rules
Like I’m 5
Talking to AI is like talking to a stranger who knows lots of facts. Be friendly, but keep your secrets, and check what it says with someone you trust.
The big idea
Chatting with AI is a bit like chatting with a stranger who knows lots of facts. It can be helpful, but it doesn't know you, and it can be wrong.
Pip's golden rules: keep private things private (your full name, address, school and passwords), check important answers with someone you trust, and stop if anything feels uncomfortable.
Examples
- Keep it private: Your password and home address never go into a chatbot.
- Check it: AI says a spider is safe to touch? Check with a grown-up or a trusted book.
- Stop it: If a chat makes you feel worried, close it and tell someone.
Check your understanding
- Which is okay to tell an AI?
- Options: Your favourite animal; Your home address; Your password.
Answer: Your favourite animal. Favourite things are fine to share. Addresses and passwords stay private. - Which of these is fine to share with a chatbot?
- Options: Your favourite colour; Your password; Your home address.
Answer: Your favourite colour. A favourite colour is harmless. Passwords and addresses stay private.
Remember
Keep private things private, and check what AI tells you.

Agree a family rule: no names, addresses, school details, photos or passwords in AI tools. When AI answers a question, check it with a trusted source.
