AI as a creative partner

Your ideas, amplified

Like I’m 5

The best way to create with AI is like playing in a band. You lead, and AI plays along, suggesting ideas while you decide the song.

The big idea

Creative people use AI to explore more options quickly: ten logo sketches, five melodies, three ways to open a speech. Then they use their taste to choose and improve the best one.

Keep your own skills growing too. Practising drawing, writing and music helps you judge AI's suggestions and add things it can't, like personal stories, humour and surprise.

Examples

  • Designers: Generate rough ideas, then draw the final version by hand.
  • Musicians: Try AI chord suggestions, then play them their own way.
  • Speakers: Ask for three openings, then rewrite the favourite in their voice.

How it works

  1. Start with your own goal and taste.
  2. Use AI to explore lots of options quickly.
  3. Choose, improve and add your personal touch.

Check your understanding

In a good AI partnership, who decides the final version?
Options: You; The AI; A random coin toss.
Answer: You. Your taste and choices shape the final work.
Why keep practising your own creative skills?
Options: So you can judge and improve AI's ideas; AI forbids practice; Skills don't matter.
Answer: So you can judge and improve AI's ideas. Skills give you the taste to choose well and add what AI can't.

Remember

Use AI to explore options; use your own taste and skills to create the final work.

Talk about it

What's one creative project where AI could give you more options?

Go deeper

Research on human-AI co-creativity finds the best results come from iterative loops where people steer, select and edit, rather than accepting first outputs.
